
When it comes to chemical substances, the main issue is the risk of explosion. Warehouses owned by manufacturers and distributors of chemical substances contain many tanks with all kinds of explosive and toxic chemicals.
Most often, the fill level of chemical tanks is not measured or visually displayed from the outside. One option could be the installation of a highly durable float level sensor, but this is not enough to guarantee safe transportation or continuous monitoring of the tank contents during transport. Nevertheless, continuous monitoring is a crucial factor ensuring transportation in compliance with relevant standards.
If pressure inside the tank is measured along with the fill level, it is possible to check whether the tank is properly sealed or if it was opened during transportation. The report also indicates whether the tank was subjected to excessive accelerations.
In this application area, the fill level is also measured by two compact pressure transmitters of the 7LD series. KELLER helped find a solution for integrating pressure transmitters that allows the tank to maintain its original shape. Since the tank is pressurized, one transmitter is mounted at the top of the tank to measure the unfilled volume, and the other transmitter is mounted at the bottom to measure the total tank pressure. The pressure difference between the two 7LD transmitters equals the chemical substance level in the tank.
Along with the temperature and location of the tank, this information is transmitted via the Internet of Things, facilitating access to vital information where it is most needed to ensure proper chemical monitoring.
