Temperature and Humidity Data Loggers

Purpose and Principle of Operation of the Temperature Recorder

A temperature recorder, often called a temperature logger or datalogger, is a standalone, compact electronic device designed for automatic measurement, recording, and storage of temperature readings over an extended period. Continuous microclimate monitoring is a critical condition for ensuring the quality and safety of products, materials, and technological processes in most industries.

The main principle of the device's operation is the periodic reading of data from a high-precision built-in or external sensor (for example, a thermocouple, thermistor, or NTC sensor) and recording these values into internal non-volatile memory with a timestamp. This allows obtaining a complete chronological profile of the temperature regime, which is impossible with a regular thermometer.

Key Advantages of Using Loggers:

1. Autonomy and Mobility: Battery power ensures operation in remote locations, vehicles, or outdoors where there is no stationary power supply.
2. Documentary Confirmation: Data recording eliminates human error and generates uneditable reports (usually in PDF format), necessary for audits and regulatory compliance.
3. High Accuracy: A professional temperature data logger has minimal error (up to ±0.1 °C), which is critically important when working with thermolabile substances.
4. Programmable Intervals: The ability to precisely set measurement frequency (from seconds to hours) allows optimizing memory capacity and battery life for specific tasks.

Temperature and Humidity Logger — Temperature and Humidity Measuring Recorder

In many fields, especially logistics, storage, and manufacturing, temperature is not the only critical parameter. Relative humidity has a huge impact on the preservation of materials, prevention of condensation, and growth of microorganisms. In such cases, it is necessary to purchase a combined device — a temperature and humidity logger.

A humidity recorder (or humidity logger) combines two high-precision sensors in one case, allowing synchronous recording of both parameters. Joint analysis of this data makes it possible to calculate the dew point, prevent spoilage of hygroscopic materials, and ensure stability of technological processes.

Application of temperature and humidity dataloggers by industry:

1. Pharmaceutical Industry: Control of storage conditions for medicines, active substances, and validation of refrigeration/freezer chambers. Maximum accuracy and mandatory calibration are required.
2. Food Products: Control of drying, pasteurization processes, as well as storage and display conditions of perishable goods.
3. Engineering Systems and Housing and Utilities: Mapping of warehouses, server rooms, quality control of heating and ventilation, acceptance of social and residential facilities for operation.

Choosing and Buying Loggers: What Affects Price and Cost?

The price and total cost of ownership of a temperature measuring recorder are determined by its technical capabilities, sensor type, and availability of additional functions. When choosing a device, it is necessary to evaluate the following key factors:

1. Requirements for Range and Accuracy:
The wider the measurement range and the higher the required accuracy, the higher the price will be. For example, devices capable of operating in ultra-low temperature conditions (down to -80 °C for «dry ice») or, conversely, for high-temperature validation (up to +140 °C) cost significantly more than standard ones. At the same time, it is important that the device case has the appropriate protection class (IP) for operation in aggressive or humid environments.
2. Type of Communication Interface:
The method of reading and transmitting data directly affects ease of use and the overall cost of the monitoring system.
   • USB Loggers: The most budget-friendly option. Data is read by direct physical connection to a computer.
   • Wireless Loggers (Bluetooth/NFC): Allow quick data reading without direct connection, using mobile applications.
   • Telemetry Loggers (Wi-Fi/Ethernet/GSM): The most expensive but the most effective solution. A temperature data logger with a communication module provides online monitoring and immediate alerts about violations.
