Hydrostatic pressure sensors allow for highly accurate continuous measurement of underground and surface water levels, as well as liquid levels in tanks.
The sensors are submerged in water, and the liquid level is determined by the pressure of the liquid column on the measuring membrane. The principle is based on the proportionality law between the height of the liquid column and the hydrostatic pressure of this column: P = ρ*g*h, where P — hydrostatic pressure of the liquid column, g = 9.8 m/s² — acceleration due to gravity, ρ — liquid density.
Position of hydrostatic level sensors
According to Pascal's law, all liquids and gases transmit the pressure applied to them equally in all directions, so we can position our hydrostatic level sensor both vertically and horizontally.
Features of Keller hydrostatic pressure sensors
The sensors have a compact design (min. diameter 16mm). To compensate for changes in atmospheric pressure, a barometric pressure sensor on the surface or a special cable with a capillary (breathing) tube is used. The sensors use an RS485 interface, which allows for signal transmission of level and temperature with high noise immunity. Versions with low power consumption (supply voltage 3.5V) are ideal for use in autonomous systems.
