Measuring Instruments in Metrology

Measuring instruments in metrology

Metrology is the science of measurements, whose role in the context of rapid technological progress and globalization is hard to overestimate. In all developed countries, unified metrological standards are adopted, which significantly simplifies production and logistics, promotes the expansion of trade turnover and the exchange of scientific knowledge. No technological or production process can be imagined without measurements. It is on their basis that unified quality assessment standards are formed and decisions are made in the field of scientific and technical developments.

Reliability, accuracy, and timeliness of measurement are the foundation for making objective and effective management decisions. They are based on the concept of metrological support. It is important that during any measurements unity is ensured – results are expressed in legalized and generally accepted units, and the magnitude of error does not exceed specified limits with a certain probability. To ensure measurement accuracy, it is necessary to properly implement scientific and organizational foundations, following rules and standards.

Basic Metrological Definitions

Measuring instruments are measuring tools that allow determining the value of a given physical quantity within a specified range. The design of a measuring instrument always includes a converting device that translates the measured quantity into a format understandable for perception.

Depending on the technology for determining the value of any physical quantity, two large groups of measuring instruments are distinguished:

  • Direct action. Devices that allow determining the indicators of the measured quantity directly on the instrument's display.
  • Comparison. A device that determines the value of a physical quantity by comparing it with a known and generally accepted value.

Measuring Instruments in Metrology

When choosing measuring instruments for metrology, it is important to consider the method of indicating the physical quantity. According to this criterion, two groups of devices are distinguished: indicating and recording.

Indicating device is a part of the measuring instrument with a separate design that allows reading the indications. An indicating device can be a pointer, display, or measuring scale.

Measuring setup is a complex of instruments and devices that perform similar functions to determine a fixed number of various physical quantities. An example of such a setup is multifunctional sensors capable of simultaneously measuring several control parameters of the environment – temperature, pressure, flow, humidity.

Working measuring instruments are a set of tools for performing technical measurements under various conditions. Information about the size of the measurement unit is transmitted during calibration, which is carried out to confirm the suitability of the equipment.

In the catalog of our company, you can choose high-precision and multifunctional measuring setups, sensors, and instruments that allow monitoring the main technological parameters – pressure, temperature, humidity, flow of the medium. The devices offered below have proven themselves well in various industries, have a long service life, and can be used even in extreme conditions.
