Cometeo - protective housing for humidity and temperature sensors

Comet company has started manufacturing protective housings for humidity, temperature, and atmospheric pressure sensors, perfectly suited for use in climate measurements, for example, at weather stations.

Measuring temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure for climate study can be associated with certain difficulties. On one hand, the sensors used for these tasks must constantly be outdoors to provide accurate readings of the environmental conditions. On the other hand, using sensors outdoors can lead to their rapid failure due to adverse weather conditions. Snow or rain can fall on the devices, condensation can form on them, and they can be exposed to direct ultraviolet radiation.

Various protective devices are usually used to shield sensors from adverse environmental effects. These devices must meet high reliability requirements – they should not fear mechanical damage or ultraviolet radiation, should not deform due to temperature or simply over time. Many "standard" protective housings used at weather stations do not possess these qualities.

Additionally, it is important that the protective housings shielding the sensor do not affect the measurement results. Distortion of readings is possible if, for example, the housing has high thermal conductivity and heats up easily. In this case, a temperature sensor protected by the housing will give elevated readings. Also, the housing may have poor ventilation and hinder air access to the measuring instrument, which can also affect the accuracy of the obtained data.

The Cometeo protective housing is specially designed for use at weather stations to protect sensors conducting climate measurements, so all the above features have been taken into account in its design.

The wide cover of the housing protects the sensors inside from both direct and oblique rain. The device’s body, consisting of separate plates, provides excellent passive ventilation. At the same time, the plates are arranged so that precipitation cannot enter inside.

Cometeo is made of ASA plastic, which makes it resistant to mechanical damage and ultraviolet radiation. Also, the body does not wear out over time.

Finally, the material and coating of the housing provide high reflectivity and low thermal conductivity, ensuring that the instrument readings are not distorted and remain as accurate as possible.

Several types of sensor mounting inside the housing are possible.

Sensors with a probe designed for mounting in a ventilation duct (for example, T3113D or T3413D) can be fully placed under the device cover.

In the case of sensors with a remote probe (for example, T3111 or T3319), only the probe is placed inside the housing, while the sensor is placed, for example, in a protected room. The probe can be mounted either at the top or bottom of the housing.

If you need to select a humidity or temperature sensor, as well as a protective housing for them, you can do so in the catalog or by contacting our specialists.
